Focused on the Goal instead of Regrets

12-14I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back

(Philippians 3:12-14 – The Message Translation)

I don’t usually read the message translation but today as I was thinking about this verse, I looked up this translation and I really like how it translates this passage.

With reference to the topic of ‘regret’, I see this as a motivating verse encouraging us to not focus on what is behind, but instead to focus wholeheartedly on the goal that is AHEAD!

One of the dangers of focusing too much on regrets is becoming lost in your sorrow, sadness, or shame regarding past mistakes.  Well, there is NO good in that as it won’t help you turn your life around and do things differently.  Shifting your focus onto what is ahead of you though WILL motivate and encourage you, and in many ways this verse is reminding us to do just that.
